3 tips to effective freshmeat usage
You use freshmeat right? So do I. I've been using it for years. But I've only just started using it effectively. Here's what I did...
First. Get and account.
I can't believe that all this time I didn't have an account. I used to physically go to the site each day and monitor what was new and interesting, but I never got an account.
Second. Subscribe to the tools that interest you.
Why get an account? Because then you can subscribe to the tools that are relevant to you. I now get emails when my favourite tools (or tools that I'm interested in seeing improved) are improved.
Third. Subscribe to the rss feed.
I used to visit Freshmeat every couple of days to scan the tools that had been updated. But then I subscribed to the rss feed and lo my life had been streamlined.
The feed has much the same textual information as the home page, but also has cool little thumbnails of the applications.
Just make sure your rss reader picks up the feed every day otherwise you might miss out on some cool tools.
