Are you recruiting people, or are you recruiting to fulfil a role? Here are tips and notes about recruiting and interviewing.

TLDR; What does Software Developer actually mean? I don’t think it is synonymous with Programmer I think it refers to someone who can do most of the activities associated with creating, releaseing and selling software.

TLDR; Reading is fine. But at some point we have to put it into action. Identify an appropriate “thing”, Try it in a controlled environment, Apply it in the real world.

TLDR; If you are lucky enough to already be working in testing, and want to learn to automate, then I recommend gradually automating to add value in your existing work. Focus on a few tools and approaches that add value to you. Then build on that.

TLDR; Be clear in what you want. Do work and research on your own first. Explain your current position to provide context for what you have done. Do look for help to take the responsible next action.

I find advice interesting.

How much of that advice is based on ’luck’ and how much on ‘deliberate and strategic choices’.

TLDR; Lead without leadership authority by assuming that courage is contagious

I suspect most emotions are contagious. Laughter is contagious. Fear is contagious. Courage is contagious.

All of these I’ve used as tactics in my work communication.

TLDR; Too many scope and reporting restrictions on testing attenuates both noise and signal.

TLDR; A career in Software Testing is not an ’easy’ ride, if you are not careful then you can get stuck. But if you work at it then you can make a difference to your company and the community at large.
